The “Engineering and Technology Education Accreditation” in Taiwan is carried out by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan Accreditation Council (IEET) certification committee. This certification committee is responsible for accrediting engineering and technology-related departments that award bachelor’s degrees for students who have completed four or more years of study at domestic universities, science and technology universities, and technical colleges recognized by the Ministry of Education.

The main purpose of IEET’s accreditation is to assist educational institutions in developing towards internationalization and teaching excellence, help parents and students select high-quality educational institutions, and help employers and research institutes recruit outstanding employees and graduate students. The focus of the certification is to understand whether the accredited institution has achieved the preset educational goals, whether the graduates have certain professional core competencies, whether the curriculum can achieve educational goals and cultivate students’ abilities. It is hoped that domestic engineering and technology-related departments can continuously improve their teaching quality under the IEET certification standards, integrate the opinions of employers, graduates, and parents in the industry, and constantly improve teaching quality to cultivate talents that better meet the needs of the industry. IEET cultivates students’ ability to analyze and apply basic knowledge through “outcome-based” certification standards, and instills the importance of professional ethics and a dedicated attitude. A department that obtains IEET accreditation represents teaching quality and student competitiveness.

Benefits of Certification

  • Screen for quality education: Certification is a mechanism for controlling education quality. Therefore, students can use “certification” as one of the indicators for screening educational institutions.
  • Enhance employability: Certification helps employers understand the teaching effectiveness of educational institutions, which can be used as one of the ways to judge talent.
  • Basic requirements for applying for international professional engineer licenses: The Chinese Taipei APEC Engineer Monitoring Committee has listed “passing IEET engineering and technology education certification” as a requirement for applying for APEC Engineer qualifications.
  • Enhance international perspectives: Departments can connect with the world through IEET certification, attract international students, establish international exchanges, and enhance students’ international perspectives.

For the industry

  • Confirm that talent cultivation can meet industry needs: Certification promotes departments to implement industry consultation mechanisms to help departments cultivate talents needed in the workplace.
  • Actively participate in education quality control work: Many industry professionals are familiar with the “certification” spirit and mechanism. IEET invites industry representatives to serve as certification committee members to participate in the review of department teaching effectiveness.
